Great FIRST microscope – This is more of a practice microscope, which is what you would want in the first place for small kiddos. My 6 year old loves this! It asks questions and they choose the answer. They can also ask more facts. Plastic slides of pictures will get them prepped for glass slides. It teaches them how to handle it all.

Fun gift for kids – Gifted this to my 4 year old and he loves learning about all the different slides. We had an issue with the drawer slide not locking in place but we were sent a replacement which works perfectly.

Cute, but… – I got this for my 4-year-old granddaughter who is very smart and very curious. It is NOT, however, a real microscope like others have also said, but that’s just fine with me. What you see on the slides are actuall pictures of the creatures, like a bee, a dandilion, a neon tetra fish, etc. and then you get a talking voice (Bindi Irwin) that gives some quick facts about it. I think a real microscope would be too advanced, even scary for a little one to see microscopic views of organisms that can look creepy up close. I really want to love this, because I think it is a great concept. However, the slides are a major pain in the a$$ to load onto the microscope correctly. My husband and I are in our 50s and both of us had a very difficult time getting those slides in the grooves correctly so we could hear the voice facts about the creatures. I cannot imagine my 4-year-old granddaughter having the dexterity to accomplish this. I was hoping it would be something that she could work on/play with independently. But I think her mom and dad would need to constantly guide her and help her out. I’m still on the fence about whether to send it back or not.
